The terms
These terms apply to the Urban Sparrow website and to the classes, workshops and private sessions that Hiroshi Sugiyama offers at the studio in Chuo-ku, Niigata. By using the site or joining a class you accept them. We have tried to write them the way we would explain them at the door.
Content and ownership
The texts and photographs on this site belong to Urban Sparrow unless stated otherwise. You are welcome to read the articles, share the links and quote a few lines with credit. Reusing our material in advertising, in another studio's listing or in a course of your own requires our written consent.
What may change
Class times, prices and teachers are listed in good faith, but a timetable that works in September may shift in January. Hip-Hop Fundamentals, Contemporary Flow and Jazz Funk are currently ¥3,500 or ¥3,800 per session, Teen Crew ¥2,800, private sessions ¥8,000 for 60 minutes and the Monthly Workshop ¥4,500. Treat the site as an introduction and confirm the details with us before you pay.
Trial classes, drop-ins and passes
The trial class costs ¥2,000 and is paid in cash on the day. Drop-in sessions are also paid in cash at the door. Monthly passes can be paid by bank transfer and are valid for the calendar month in which they are bought; they do not roll over, and unused sessions cannot be refunded at the end of the month.
Cancelling and rescheduling
Drop-in sessions that are already paid are non-refundable, but you can apply the credit to another session in the same calendar month if you tell Hiroshi at least 24 hours before the class you cannot attend. If the studio cancels a class, for example because of a typhoon warning or heavy snow on the Niigata plain, we will move you to another session or credit it, whichever you prefer.
Taking part safely
Dancing is physical. You take part at your own risk and you agree to work within your limits. Please tell Hiroshi before class about any injury, pregnancy or condition that matters, and stop if something hurts. Wear clothes you can move in and clean indoor trainers or bare feet or socks, depending on the class, and leave valuables at home, because the changing area has no lockers.
Students under 18
Students under 18 need the consent of a parent or guardian, who is responsible for them while they are at the studio and for arranging the journey home. Adults who want a beginner class should choose Hip-Hop Fundamentals on a Tuesday or Thursday evening rather than Teen Crew.
Conduct in the studio
The room is small and shared. Please arrive on time, respect other dancers' space, and keep phone filming off unless you have asked first. We may ask someone to leave a class if their behaviour puts others at risk, and in that case the session fee is not returned.
Private sessions and the Monthly Workshop
Private sessions are booked for 60 minutes by agreement with Hiroshi and are paid before or at the start of the hour. Late arrival does not extend the session. The Monthly Workshop has a fixed date announced on the site and by email, and its fee of ¥4,500 covers that single workshop only, not any regular class.
Photos and recordings
We do not photograph or film students in class without asking them first, and we expect the same of you. If you would like to record a combination to practise at home, ask Hiroshi before you press the button. Pictures on this site are used with the knowledge of the people in them, and you can ask for one to be removed at any time.
Finding the studio
The studio is on the second floor, about a seven-minute walk from Niigata Station, and there is a coin parking lot on the next block. We are not responsible for parking fees, bicycles left outside or items lost between the door and the changing area. Please come in quietly if a class is already under way.
Your personal data
The privacy policy explains how your enquiry, payment and health notes are handled and forms part of these terms. By enrolling you agree that we may use your details to run your classes and to keep the records the law requires.
Liability
To the extent the law permits, Urban Sparrow accepts no liability for indirect losses arising from use of this site or from injuries that result from ignoring instructions or from conditions we were not told about. This does not limit any rights you have under Japanese consumer law or any liability that cannot be excluded. Linked third-party sites are outside our control.
Updates and governing law
We may revise these terms, and the version on this page is the one in force. Japanese law governs them, and any dispute that cannot be settled in conversation will go to the Niigata District Court as the court of first instance.
